After the earthquake Mission of Hope still serving strong

Nearly one year ago a 7.0 earthquake ravaged Haiti, leaving it forever changed. Established in 1998, Mission of Hope Haiti (MOH) has been serving communities just north of Port-au-Prince for over a decade and was prepared to serve those devastated by the disaster that struck the impoverished country on January 12th, 2010, reports Russ Jones, special to ASSIST News Service.

Mission of Hope was one of the first responders after the quake, providing immediate relief to those in need. As the earthquake killed more than 230,000 people, and uprooted thousands more, MOH adapted to its new environment expanding its efforts in Haiti.

“In Haiti’s darkest hour God had prepared Mission of Hope to be there to bring the Gospel in its brightest moment,” said Brad Johnson president of Mission of Hope. “We are very thankful to have been there to serve over 15 million meals throughout the country.”

Since the earthquake, Mission of Hope has:

* Delivered over 15 million meals

* Fed 50,000 children daily through its partnership with Convoy of Hope

* Treated 27,000 patients at the Clinic of Hope

* Performed 266 orthopedic and plastic surgeries

* Provided 75 prosthetic limbs

* Constructed 18 village homes

* Started construction on building a 500 home community

* Expanded its School of Hope to include over 2,516 students

* Equipped over 200 family farmers with agricultural training

* Seen over 1,000 people make first-time commitments to follow Jesus

* Employed 240 Haitians

Over one million people still live without homes, electricity and security. Recently, however, the government donated 200 acres to MOH for a housing development.

“You hear so many negative reports about what is not being done – you very seldom hear what is being done,” Johnson said. “There are homes being built throughout the nation and there are families moving in, but there just aren’t enough. A lot of that comes down to needing the ongoing help of those in North America to see that their brothers and sisters in Haiti can move forward.”

How to help Mission of Hope’s “Rebirth Haiti” project:

* Pray – Pray for the people of Haiti as they continue to recover and for Mission of Hope as it serves various communities.

* Donate – Prayerfully consider supporting Mission of Hope financially.

It is through support from generous donors the organization is able to continue serving the country of Haiti. Text “Haiti” to 27722 to donate $10 to Mission of Hope.

I love to hike (up to 12,000 ft peaks), bike, and raft in the mountains, so it is like heaven to me there. Biggest Challenge? My biggest challenge is being patient. I am very efficient and quite a perfectionist, so waiting does not come easily to me. Best Advice? Treat others as you would want to be treated, and never compromise what you know is right. Recognising Reality - Grieve that God is cursed for every catastrophe, but seldom praised for His wonderful Creation. Lament that God makes the news headlines only when man mocks His power or questions His goodness, but tens-of-thousands of God’s acts of mercy, grace, protection, provision and patience receive no headlines. Grieve that the Name of the only righteous Man who ever walked the earth is used as a swear word on T.V. screens and in cinemas across the world. Grieve that God is blasphemed by the very same people who question why God does not restrain the consequences of their own rebellious actions
