Family Focus: Korean megachurch pastor shares his secrets

Pastor of Manmin church Jaerock Lee from South Korea told Christian Telegraphreporter some key principles of building a successful marriage. Rev. Jaerock Lee is pretty sure that the best way to build a happy family is to practice the Word of God in our everyday life.

“Before I came to Christ I had suffered from diseases for seven years. I went to hospitals and took medicine. I was abandoned by all people,” told pastor. “My mother who was almost seventy at that time told me to die as soon as possible because it would be best for me. I was abandoned by everyone. I had no hope to be healed. I just waited for death. I had six brothers and sisters and only one older sister was a strong believer in Jesus Christ. She had prayed for me for a long time and she led me to church. I got touched by the Holy Spirit and was completely healed. I was abandoned by everyone, only God had never forsaken me. So when I was saved my wife was grateful to God. She also began going to church and got saved and fell in love with God. I had two daughters at that time and I taught them to pray and read the Bible and attend the church. I even asked them to call me “pastor” instead of “daddy”. I never have dictated them what to do, I just taught them to love God. That’s how they grew up. Our family was always harmonious and happy. We have never experienced any diseases since I was saved. Also I had a lot of debt. But when I accepted Jesus I was blessed not only spiritually but even physically and I could pay back all the debt. We love each other because we live according to the Word of God. We practice the Word of God in our everyday lives.”

Also pastor of Korean megachurch shared some important principles of raising children. According to his words, his family never passed through teen age struggling period.

“I didn't experience struggling period of teen age for my daughters. Why? Because they fell in love with God and the church from the beginning,” Rev. Jaerock Lee told. “They loved reading the Bible, they loved to praise the Lord. They didn’t love the world. So when they watched TV, as we know, there is a lot of bad stuff there, so I just told them that if they watch TV it is not very good and asked them if we should remove the TV set from our house. They said, “Okay, let’s throw it away.” So we didn’t have a TV at home when they were young. They didn’t love what’s in the world, that’s why they didn’t have that hard teenage period. By the grace of God and by the wisdom from heaven they knew how teenagers suffer and what they are going through. They knew it through prayer. They were led by the Holy Spirit. Without experiencing it by themselves they understood it by the grace of God. I have three daughters and they don’t love what’s in the world. I have never been worried because of my daughters. Now they have grown up, and they don’t even want to get married, they just want to give themselves to the Lord. They have become pastors and they are great help to me and my ministry. They are also loved by our church members so much.”

My favorite place in the world is Colorado. I spent every summer there growing up and my family still has a cabin there. I love to hike (up to 12,000 ft peaks), bike, and raft in the mountains, so it is like heaven to me there. Biggest Challenge? My biggest challenge is being patient. I am very efficient and quite a perfectionist, so waiting does not come easily to me. Best Advice? Treat others as you would want to be treated, and never compromise what you know is right. Goals? To be a successful performer who is able to influence people for good.
