Social boycott: Tahsildar holds peace meeting
Hassan, April 8, DHNS
Following complaints of social boycott of dalits at Keragodu village in Arkalgud taluk, a team of officials led by Tahsildar M K Savitha visited the village and held peace talks with the members of both communities, on Thursday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Parashuram, Circle Police Inspector S J Kumaraswamy, Taluk Social Welfare Officer Nagaraju and dalit leader K C Basavaraju were among those who visited the village.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Konanur Police Station and investigation is on. The situation was brought under control by them.
There were 120 families including nine dalits in the village. The dalits alleged that the people belonging to upper caste attacked them and imposed social boycott on them for having refused to shift the carcass of animals on the Deepavali Day, last year. The dalits were assaulted when they questioned the Upper castes for their action.
Besides, they had been barred from entering temple, not allowed to collect water from bore wells and stopped supplying ration through the fair price shop. They also complained that they had been insulted by not accepting puja materials at Basaveshwara temple jathra on Ugadi festival.
