EDMOND, OK (ANS) -- In honor of the 400th Anniversary of the King James Version Bible, YouVersion is organizing the largest and fastest Bible-reading event in history. YouVersion is asking for individuals to participate in reading an assigned portion of the KJV Bible during a 6 minute 40 second time-frame, or 400 seconds total, beginning at 12:00 p.m. EST on May 2.
Anyone interested in participating can sign up on http://www.youversion.com/kjv400.
“We’re celebrating history by making history,” said Bobby Gruenewald, Innovation leader at Lifechurch.tv, creators of YouVersion. “Access to the Bible was greatly increased with the King James Version. Now, 400 years later, people are still being influenced by this translation.”
According to a news release from A. Larry Ross Communications (www.alarryross.com), on the day of the event, participants are invited to read their passages out loud, share photos and posts on Twitter and Facebook, or even arrange a meet up to read their passages with friends. YouVersion will also switch the default online Bible version to the King James Version.
“I believe this global Bible reading event shows just how far we have come and where we are going with access and interaction with the Bible,” Gruenewald said.
Earlier this year, YouVersion teamed up with Zondervan and Biblica to give away 1 million digital Bibles in 400 hours as part of the KJV Bible’s 400th Anniversary.
YouVersion and the Bible App were created by a team at LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Okla., to help increase access and engagement with the Bible. YouVersion.com launched in September 2007 and the Bible app launched in July 2008. YouVersion and its mobile app also allow users to bookmark verses, share Scripture through email, Twitter, and Facebook, journal their thoughts and more.
Featuring more than 100 different translations and nearly 40 languages, YouVersion was created to help people with busy, on-the-go lifestyles read the Bible at anytime and in any place.
Since its creation, YouVersion has remained in the top five downloaded apps in the reference category and is the No. 1 downloaded Bible on iTunes. The Bible App has been listed in the all-time top 10 apps for the iPad and the top 50 apps for the iPhone. The app has been installed on millions of mobile devices and users have spent billions of minutes using the Bible App to engage with Scripture.
