LONDON, ENGLAND (ANS) -- As part of a 50 day campaign leading up to the Global Day of Prayer on June 12, 2011, GDOP London is calling for 50,000 followers on Twitter to tweet the Lord’s prayer.

On Easter weekend GDOP London began tweeting segments of the Lord’s prayer in a bid to encourage more Christians to pray for the the United Kingdom.

“We want to get people of all ages and backgrounds praying the Lord ’s Prayer wherever they are at 12 o’clock every day or anytime of the day,” said GDOP London convener Jonathan Oloyede.

He added: “We want to be praying ‘Lord let your kingdom come and thy will be done over this whole nation.’ So join the campaign as we countdown 50 days from Easter weekend to Pentecost weekend. Email, text, phone your friends the link #GDOPLondon via our twitter viral initiative and let’s every one of us reach the goal if we can of 50,000 people on the twitter campaign praying the Lord’s prayer.”

This unique project is being coordinated by prayer strategist and trainer Daniel Eagle, who believes strongly in the power of social networking to mobilize prayer: “As the world becomes more and more interconnected as a global village it is imperative that we use all the tools at our disposal to promote the cause for which GDOP London exists. The Convener Jonathan Oloyede mentioned a few years back that he saw in a sense a canopy of prayer and praise enveloping London and all the British Isles as different pockets of fire came together to pray.

“Social media is the next wave for global communication and interaction. GDOP London is using social media to generate prayer at the centre of this evolving communication trend. We are setting an example rather than letting those with destructive agendas set the tone for the UK community through social media.”

So far #GDOPLondon has a growing number of followers, including some Members of the British Parliament from different political parties.

Daniel Eagle says the response so far has been very encouraging: “The Twitter following is very diversified and still increasing. We have quite a few individuals who have commended our efforts and we also have two individuals who have taken offense at our prayer tweeting. We try to wake London up with a prayer and good word. We also share encouraging prayer tweets when the people go to sleep at night.”

Jonathan Oloyede is also a strong believer in the impact of using social media: “It works, as we know from the Obama campaign, using social media with lots of people at grassroots level mobilized. It is a very easy, cost effective way of connecting communication. Send a YouTube, twitter or facebook link to all your friends and this is one of the easier ways of getting people aware of what’s going on. If you are able to text everyone on your contact list or send all your friends on your Facebook page, what is happening, we will have hundreds of thousands of people aware of this campaign. You are a vital link, please do not be the weakest link.”

Oloyede believes once this campaign concludes on Pentecost Sunday June 12, momentum will then build towards a major event taking place at Wembley stadium: “This is building towards a cascading of prayer rising up from the whole of the British Isles, when we gather at Wembley stadium on Saturday September 17. It’s building towards the kingdom of God breaking out in every one of our villages, towns and cities in this nation. Many people don’t know about Jesus or how to pray and are lost and we need to reach them if we believe in the message of the Gospel.”

The Global Day of Prayer London (GDOP) is a movement of collaboration across the Christian Church in the British capital towards Unity, Prayer and Transformation, and is part of a global network which began in South Africa at the turn of the Millennium. In 2009 over 250 million Christians united in 220 countries to pray. In London, GDOP has been a focus of prayer and Christian action since 2006 with prayer networks now in every London borough. West Ham Stadium 07, Millwall Football Stadium in 2008 and West Ham stadium in 2010 saw a combined attendance of 40,000 Christians attending.

From August 1st, 2010 - December 31, 2011 GDOP London is coordinating 500 Days of Prayer calling for:

*500 people who will stand in the gap, choose one day throughout 500 days to fast and pray

* 100 Churches or Organizations who will take a day to pray each month through the 500 days

* 1 Million Christians who will set their mobile phone to 12 noon and pray the Lord's Prayer each day

My favorite place in the world is Colorado. I spent every summer there growing up and my family still has a cabin there. I love to hike (up to 12,000 ft peaks), bike, and raft in the mountains, so it is like heaven to me there. Biggest Challenge? My biggest challenge is being patient. I am very efficient and quite a perfectionist, so waiting does not come easily to me. Best Advice? Treat others as you would want to be treated, and never compromise what you know is right. Recognising Reality - Grieve that God is cursed for every catastrophe, but seldom praised for His wonderful Creation. Lament that God makes the news headlines only when man mocks His power or questions His goodness, but tens-of-thousands of God’s acts of mercy, grace, protection, provision and patience receive no headlines. Grieve that the Name of the only righteous Man who ever walked the earth is used as a swear word on T.V. screens and in cinemas across the world. Grieve that God is blasphemed by the very same people who question why God does not restrain the consequences of their own rebellious actions
